Pandit Hari Chand Akhtar

Renowned Urdu Pandit Hari Chand Akhtar was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, on 15 April 1901. He obtained M.A. (English) degree from Punjab University Lahore and spent most of his life there, writing for Newspaper ‘Paras’ which was then owned and edited by Lala Karam Chand. He also worked in the office of the Punjab legislative Assembly. Hari Chand whose pen name was ‘akhter’ moved to Delhi after the formation of Pakistan. He was known for his unique sense of humour sharp wit that reflects from his poetry as well. His collection of ghazals titled “Kufr o Imaan” was published during his lifetime. He died on 1st January 1958 in Delhi.
