
KARACHI – After over two years of dillydallying, the provincial government has been ordered by the Sindh High Court to hold local bodies’ elections within 90 days.
A two-member bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Nadeem Akhtar Friday announced the decision on a petition regarding local bodies (LB) elections filed two years ago by former Sukkur Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah.
The petitioner submitted that the LB elections were not held as per the SLGO (Sindh Local Government Ordinance) and were delayed on flimsy grounds. Counsel for the petitioner Barrister Shabbir Shah submitted that tenure of the local bodies ended in the year 2009 and elections were to be held as per article 140-A of the constitution.
